*THE LIFESTYLE OF THE REDEEMED (3)*

🔑 *KEY VERSE:*

"Looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed..." (Titus 2: 14).

*TODAY'S TEXT*

TITUS 2:13-14

 *MESSAGE*

Titus 2:11-12 tells the beautiful story of salvation from sin based on God's grace. It shows the lifestyle of those who have been saved, that they are to deny all ungodly deeds and live righteously in the world, looking for the blessed hope, which is the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ to rapture believers. We want to talk about how this should affect the lifestyle of the redeemed.

Hope is defined as a confident anticipation or expectation of something good. Christianity offers two types of hope, namely, for this present life (1 Cor. 15:19) and eternal life, as seen in our text. The believer has hope in this life to be protected and delivered from evil and to have all his or her needs supplied by God. However, no matter how blessed a believer might be in this life, he or she cannot be fully comfortable and one day he or she will certainly leave behind those material things through death, without carrying anything with him or her (Job 1:20-21; 1 Tim. 6:6-12). All the material things, houses, cars, airplanes, money and whatever else that constitutes riches, shall be burnt by fire someday (2 Peter 3: 10). The hope that is beyond the earthly hope is called the blessed hope which is eternal life.

The blessed hope entails a peculiar lifestyle. Those who have this hope are to follow peace with all men and holiness (Heb. 12:14). They are to purify themselves (1 John 3:3). They are to make sure they have enough oil in their lamps (Matt. 25:1-13). Oil in this parable stands for faith, compare Luke18:8. They are to make themselves always ready for the rapture as they don't know the particular day or time (Matt. 24:36-51; Rev19:7). They have to constantly examine themselves to know whether they are still in the faith or not (2 Cor. 13:5). They have to run away from any besetting sin (Heb. 12:1-2). They have to confess to God and repent of every known sin in their lives (1 John 1:7-9). The blessed hope is what will motivate a child of God to be different from the people of the world in all situations and circumstances. They don't live in this world like those who don't have this hope. The blessed hope is the greatest motivation to serve God with all that He has endowed the believer. It encourages the believer in tribulations that a better day will come. Don't lose the blessed hope of the coming of Christ to take us out of this sinful world. At the same time, don't live aimlessly in this life because you claim to be looking for the blessed hope. Be rapture conscious.
